Pot (small), Frying pan, Stovetop
Peel the potatoes & cut them into cubes.
In a pot of salted boiling water, cook the potatoes for 15 min, or until fork-tender.
While the potatoes are cooking, chop the shallot & set aside.
After 15 min, drain the potatoes.
Add the potatoes to a bowl. Season with salt & pepper. Add a pinch of nutmeg (optional).
Add the milk & butter to the potatoes. Mash ingredients together with a fork or potato masher. Add more milk, if needed, to reach desired consistency. Cover & keep warm.
Melt the rest of the butter or a drizzle of oil in a pan over medium heat, add the shallot & cook, stirring for 2 min.
Add the beef patties to the pan & cook for 2 min on each side, or until done to your liking. Season each side with salt & pepper. Remove from heat.
While the pan is still hot, add 2 tbsp of water (per person) to the pan to create au jus. Let the sauce thicken for 1-2 min.
Serve the beef with the mashed potatoes & sauce. Enjoy!
