Potato

Step 1

Peel & cube the potatoes.

Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the potatoes. Cook for 10-15 min, or until they're fork-tender.

Shallot

Step 3

Peel & mince the shallot.

Shallot
Butter (unsalted)

Step 4

Melt a pat of butter in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the minced shallot & a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring for 3 min. Then add a splash of water to deglaze the pan.

Chives (fresh)

Step 5

Mince the chives. Set aside.

Beef (hanger steak)

Step 6

Once the water has evaporated from the pan, add the steak. Cook for 3 min on each side, or until the steak is cooked to your liking.

Potato
Butter (unsalted)

Step 7

Drain the potatoes, reserving a bit of the cooking liquid. Mash the potatoes with the reserved cooking liquid, salt, pepper & a dab of butter. The potatoes should be smooth & creamy.

Shallot
Butter (unsalted)

Step 8

Remove the steak from the pan, leaving the shallots over the heat. Add another dab of butter to the pan. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Let the shallots & butter reduce to a gravy.

Chives (fresh)
Potato

Step 9

Add the chives to the creamy mashed potatoes.

Step 10

Serve the mashed potatoes alongside the steak. Pour the shallot gravy over all. Bon appétit!
