Stovetop, Pot (small), Citrus juicer, Peeler
Step 1
Using a veggie peeler, peel long strips of orange zest. Then juice the orange.
Step 2
Peel the pears, leaving the stems on.
Step 3
In a pot over low heat, combine the wine, sugar, cinnamon, star anise (optional), a couple of orange peels & the orange juice. (Whole cloves & allspice berries are nice too!) Bring it to a simmer.
Step 4
Add the pears to the pot. Cover & simmer for 7 min.
Step 5
Remove the lid & turn over the pears. Simmer for another 5-7 min.
Step 6
Remove the pears with a slotted spoon. Set them aside on a plate. Continue to simmer the spiced wine until it reduces into a syrupy sauce.
Step 7
Serve the pears sliced in half & drizzled with the wine reduction. Garnish with cinnamon, orange peel & star anise. Enjoy!
