At Jow, we’re always keeping an eye out for brands that feel as good as they taste. To us, that means sharing some of the values we care about most: well-being, accessibility, and impact.
We’ve kept these values at the forefront of one of our key missions: helping families eat well, and the brands we’re touting do just that. Whether it’s because of their transparent labels, or their impact on the world, the following nine brands are favorites of ours that we, well, want to tout!
1. Pasta Sauces: Rao’s Homemade
Rao’s immediately upgrades your pasta dish. With classic options like marinara, arrabbiata, and bolognese, their sauces are made with real ingredients. No added sugars, pastes, or fillers - it’s tomatoes picked at peak ripeness and other sourced ingredients. Their commitment to quality and excellence is unwavering and it hasn’t gone unnoticed!
2. Sweets: Lily’s Chocolate
Lily’s was created by a grocery store owner in Philly to make chocolate better (for bodies and the planet). Their chocolate doesn’t have refined or processed sugars, but still tastes delicious for snacking or baking. On top of their dedication to “better for you” chocolate, their source is Fair Trade and they pledge a percentage of their profits to support the fight against childhood cancer. A win-win-win chocolate.
3. Broths & Soups: Kettle & Fire
We love a brand with an ampersand, especially when their mission is to create products that heal, rather than harm. That’s Kettle & Fire’s mission, and they’re doing the work. They create delicious, animal-based broths adhering to strict criteria for both the care of the animals and the quality of their products. You’ll be happy to hear that they use 100% grass fed beef, organic free-range chickens, and zero hormones or antibiotics. Their conscientiousness even goes to their packaging, which is eco-friendly. They’re all about impact. It’s a favorite of ours.
4. Condiments: Primal Kitchen
Primal Kitchen wanted to create a condiment that was healthy as it was tasty. And they did it. Their mission is all about choosing real food and investing in your own health. Founder, Mark Sissan’s incredible journey with his health and athleticism inspiring the wild ride. You’ll recognize all of the ingredients you see on the label. One of our favorites is their Mayo made with avocado oil. High quality, delicious, real.
5. Pasta alternatives: Banza
Beans, but make it pasta. Beans are good for our bodies and for the planet, and Banza wanted to take this to the next level by creating a delicious “pasta”. A little known (but important) fact is that popular beans we eat are nitrogen fixing crops. This means they take nitrogen from the air into the soil, helping other plants and making them an eco-friendly crop. Beans have more protein, more fiber and fewer carbs. This is a product that your entire family can feel good about.
6. Dairy-free “milks”: Califia
Califia isn’t only thinking about the future… they’re creating it with their shockingly good dairy-alternatives for cooking, baking, and sipping with coffee. Starting with juices, but now with their popular plant-based “milks”, Califia is hyper-focused on helping the planet, transforming the current food system, and supercharging our health all in one foul swoop… and it tastes so good.
7. Honey: Mike’s Hot Honey
Inspired by his travels to South America, Mike Kurtz started Mike’s Hot Honey after months of experimentation. Their ingredients are pure and regularly tested, and their business is also SQF certified (meaning their processes meet the highest global safety standard). Their hot honey is tasty as all get out, but it doesn’t stop there. The brand is always doing interesting collaborations, from more expected extensions like mustard and cider, to surprising ones like sneakers.
8. Nut Butters: Once Again
Once Again is an oldie, but a goodie. We can thank them for the first organic-stabilized peanut butter in the states. Through and through, proven time and time again, Once Again is dedicated to both sustainability and integrity. 100% employee-owned, SQF certified, and Certified Fair Labor, Once Again doesn’t just talk the talk; they walk the walk. Deliciously.
9. Meat Alternatives: Daring
A favorite among Jow meat-eaters and vegetarians alike, Daring is creating plant-based chicken that actually tastes like chicken. With health & animals at the forefront of their mission, they’ve created a product that is healthy, doesn’t rely on animals, and whose production is climate-friendly. While all of their products are tasty, we recommend the Cajun Plant Chicken Pieces. So good.
