Oven, Stovetop, Frying pan, Round baking dish
Step 1
(Since each pie crust is different, also follow your package instructions for baking.) Preheat the oven to 400°F. Peel the shallots. Cut off the stems. Then cut them in half lengthwise.
Step 2
Melt the butter & sugar in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the shallots.
Step 3
Cook for 5 min, stirring frequently.
Step 4
Add the vinegar, salt & pepper to the pan. Add a few sprigs or pinches of thyme (optional). Reduce the heat to low & cook for 7 min. Stir frequently.
Step 5
Transfer the caramelized shallots to a greased round baking tin. Spread them out in a single layer.
Step 6
Lay the sheet of pie dough over the dish, folding in the edges.
Step 7
Pierce the dough a few times with a fork. Bake at 400°F for 20 min. Remove from the oven & allow to cool for 5 min.
Step 8
Place a large plate over the pie tin. Holding it firmly in place, flip over the tart. Serve, yum!
