recipe
- Step 1
Place the steak in between two sheets of plastic wrap on a cutting board. Using a meat mallet, carefully pound the steak very thin. If you don't have a meat mallet you can use the bottom of a heavy pan. - Step 2
In a shallow bowl, add the flour, paprika, onion powder, salt & pepper. Whisk to combine. - Step 3
In another shallow bowl, add a 1/4 of the milk (save the rest for the gravy), egg, salt & pepper. Whisk thoroughly. - Step 4
Coat the steak in the flour mixture, then dunk it in the egg mixture. Next, add the steak back into the flour mixture to coat completely. Place the coated steak on a clean dish. Repeat this step with all pieces of steak. - Step 5
Fill a frying pan with water & bring it to a boil. Add the green beans & cook for 4-5 min. Drain & keep warm. - Step 6
Wipe any excess water out of the pan. Add neutral oil (enough to fully coat the bottom of the pan) & heat for about 1 min over medium heat (the oil should be 350ºF). Add the steak & cook for 2-3 min on each side. The steak is very thin so will cook quickly! Remove the steak & place it on a paper towel lined plate. Set the plate aside & keep warm. - Step 7
Wipe any excess oil out of the pan with a paper towel. Add equal parts butter & flour to the pan on medium-low heat (for example, 2 servings = 2 tbsp butter & 2 tbsp flour). Whisk it all together for about 1 min. Pour in the remaining milk & whisk until the gravy thickens. Add more milk if you prefer a thinner gravy. Season with salt & pepper. - Step 8
Serve the chicken fried steak topped with the tasty gravy & green beans. Enjoy!
